Political Detox: Taking a time out.

Like many of you out there, I am finding this election season to be an interesting, and incredibly anxiety ridden experience. I am quite interested in politics, and I feel like I am learning something new, reading new articles, watching videos, and discussing politics on a near constant basis. As much as I like feeling like I am "a part of" through educating myself and voicing my opinions, I'm also human and sometimes, us humans need to press the pause button. It doesn't matter where you find yourself on the political spectrum, sometimes you just need to take a break: a political detox if you will.

I've been spending much of my day trying to complete an overabundance of tasks for my grad school classes, and I went on twitter for a little break. I found that when scrolling through my feed, there was little getting through the constant political chatter. While I do care immensely about this election, right now I feel like I just need a little vacation away from it. Figuring that I cannot be alone in this feeling, I put together a list of things that I will be doing in an effort to have a little political detox.

Watch Youtube videos: Seriously. Turn off MSNBC or CNN or whatever political station you've had on for the past year and switch to something lighthearted and simple. Right now I'm really loving watching some of my OG favorite people on Youtube: Its Judy's Life and Fleur De Force (and De VLOG!!).

Bake something: Fall is the perfect time to busy yourself with some baking. Apples, pumpkin, cinnamon,....I'm planning on making an apple pie this weekend myself. :)

Do some shopping: Fall is one of my favorite times to shop. I love anything autumn related, but beyond decor, fall fashion is my favorite. I love being able to layer again, and bust out SCARVES!! The colors are generally darker and the clothing often cozier. I'm loving this scarf from Nordstrom, which comes in an abundance of seasonally appropriate colors and is also super affordable!

Read a book: I've got plenty of reading to get through for classes, but I also try to find some time to read a chapter here or there of something non-school related. I recently shared a book haul with you from Book Depository, so I've got plenty of books to choose from!*

* and I may have already added to that pile.... 

Catch up on a favorite show: I'm pretty sure I've made it clear on here already, but in case I haven't, I love television and one of my favorites shows is The Golden Girls. One of my favorite ways to de-stress at night is to turn on The Hallmark Channel and watch a few episodes of my favorite group of women. I've seen each episode probably a dozen of times, but I think that might be what makes it so relaxing...The familiarity makes it more comforting!


These aren't earth shattering ideas or anything, but sometimes I think we need a reminder that its ok to step away from current events and give ourselves a break.
