January Favorites 2018

Why hello there! It's the new year and here we are already a month in, which means it's time for my monthly favorites! I always love putting these kinds of posts together because I enjoy trying new things, rediscovering old things, and I really, really, really, like sharing my opinions! ;) It's been a bit quiet around here as I've started a new semester of grad school and the time that I have to dedicate to the blog has become a bit overrun by other work, but I'm still here! At the very least, there's always a favorite post in the works!

I feel like if I had to pick any word to describe my favorites for this month, it would have to be: winter. The winter weather has certainly been taking a toll on my skin and I've been on the hunt for hydration helpers. I feel like over the past year or so, my skin has changed a bit in general and has become far drier than its ever been before. I still have oily spots (hello eyelids!), but overall, there's definitely more dryness than I've ever experienced. It's especially noticeable (at least to me), in my cheeks. This month I've discovered two products that have actually been making quite a difference in my dry skin.

Friends: A Completely Unsolicited and Vaguley Thorough Review of the Entire Series

Despite being a huge lover of sitcoms, there's quite a few that I like, but haven't watched in their entirety, or in order. Friends ran from 1994 to 2004 and despite enjoying it whenever I caught it, I never saw the entire series (in my defense, we didn't always have TV...), and I definitely didn't catch it in order. So I decided to finally right that wrong and during my break between semesters, I've been working on watching every episode from start to finish.

Since you didn't ask, I've decided to compile some of my thoughts on the show as I progress through it. Watching ten years of a show is quite a commitment and I had to talk about it somewhere...

Friends is a time capsule for the 90s. Although the show bridges decades, going from the 90s to the 2000s, it's early 2000s so it still carries that 90s charm through to the end for the most part. The 90s were my jam so it shouldn't come as any surprise that I enjoyed reliving it through this show. Things were simpler in so many ways and there's an appeal to that. In general, I love the style both in terms of decor and fashion way better - I feel like with a few exceptions, there was a theme of comfort, and I'm all about that. But beyond clothing, the fact that they weren't connected to smart phones or the internet 24/7 really stands out (actually this is something absent from ALL of my favorite sitcoms...). There were times where technology certainly would have helped (I was amused by the simple fact that they had to call to get a plane ticket), but it's absence also allowed for more conversation and just a general simplicity that I really appreciated. I'm sure our current political climate doesn't help at all in terms of making me yearn for a quieter time... #sarcasm

Flower Beauty Flower Pots Powder Blush: First Impressions

Flower Beauty is nothing new, and I'm sure most of you have heard of it. But since it's (so far) only been available in Walmart and online, I don't know if it's as well-known as it potentially could be. Flower Beauty comes from the creative mind of Drew Barrymore. I don't know about you, but I think she's the perfect person to have a makeup line - She always looks gorgeous -without looking overly made up. It seems that her general vibe makeup wise is fairly natural, so that's a positive in my book because generally speaking, I go for the more natural makeup look (don't get me wrong, sometimes I'm down for something a bit more intense...).

2018 Goals (& 2017 Recap)

2017 was one hell of a year. I know people say this every new year, but trust me: I am SO READY to put 2017 behind me. I'm exhausted in all possible ways and much of it hinges from our current political climate if I'm honest. I do try to remove myself from time to time because I find it's really taking a toll on me, but it honestly feels inescapable. It's hard to find a balance between being informed and being oblivious for my own well-being. Anyway, that's not really what this post is about. Today I'm sharing my 2018 goals and doing a quick recap on my 2017 goals and how well I did with those (or didn't). I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I hate the word resolution, and much prefer to start the year off with some goals because I feel that makes more sense. Goals can evolve. Resolutions feel... well, ... resolute. Things change. Our desires change. So I try to focus on goals that allow for some fluidity.

December 2017 Favorites

I don't know about you, but I am READY to bid 2017 adieu. It's been a long, difficult and frankly, shit show of a year. So I'm happy that it's now time for me to recount my December favorites. I thought about doing a yearly favorites rather than my monthly favorites for December, but I decided I'd rather talk about what I'm loving this month than trying to choose more "ultimate" favorites.

American Eagle Jeans - I used to wear jeans every single day. Then somewhere along the way I started wearing yoga pants and leggings a lot more. I attend school online, work from home, and as a spoonie, I don't always feel 100%, so I don't have too much need for dressing up. But sometimes I feel frumpy and I don't want to look like I live in my pajamas. I've tried finding the perfect jeans over the years and I've given up a handful of times, but I decided to give the search another go. I was inspired by Sarah Rae Vargas - who does these awesome try-on videos with different clothing retailers. She recently did one with American Eagle, which is where I used to get my jeans from years ago. I guess I just figured that they no longer had anything for me, and somewhere over the years, I just stopped shopping there. Well, I'm here to say that I was so wrong. I placed a pretty big order from them in November, and ended up finding my new favorite jeans. Favorite Jeans. That's something I haven't said in a really, really, long time. These jeans are so incredibly comfortable that I can actually forget that I'm wearing jeans. They make me feel a little more human, and I'll definitely be coming back for more!!
