January Favorites 2018

Why hello there! It's the new year and here we are already a month in, which means it's time for my monthly favorites! I always love putting these kinds of posts together because I enjoy trying new things, rediscovering old things, and I really, really, really, like sharing my opinions! ;) It's been a bit quiet around here as I've started a new semester of grad school and the time that I have to dedicate to the blog has become a bit overrun by other work, but I'm still here! At the very least, there's always a favorite post in the works!

I feel like if I had to pick any word to describe my favorites for this month, it would have to be: winter. The winter weather has certainly been taking a toll on my skin and I've been on the hunt for hydration helpers. I feel like over the past year or so, my skin has changed a bit in general and has become far drier than its ever been before. I still have oily spots (hello eyelids!), but overall, there's definitely more dryness than I've ever experienced. It's especially noticeable (at least to me), in my cheeks. This month I've discovered two products that have actually been making quite a difference in my dry skin.

The first is the La Roche Posay Lipikar Balm AP+. It's a lotion meant for extremely dry skin and I've been using it for a couple weeks now and holy hell, this stuff is GREAT!!! I've had dry feet for what honestly feels like my entire life, and this stuff made such a difference just in one nights use - and really, no other product has ever  made much of an impact for me. I've been using it every evening on my feet, elbows, arms, and on my face and it's really a wonder product for me. I'm not extremely fond of the smell, but this stuff works so beautifully, that I can easily overlook that (I mist a sleep spray on my bed anyways and that takes care of the scent issue). I'm pretty picky about lotions, and this product is so amazing, that I'd easily give up every other lotion and cream I own. Without question!! They've got two lotions under this name and this particular one is the more intense. If you've got a dry skin issue, I'd really suggest you give this one a go!

The other skincare favorite for me this month, has been the Mario Badescu facial spray. This particular one is new, and is the aloe, chamomile and lavender spray. This spray is incredible. I've actually never tried anything from Mario Badescu before, but was drawn to this because I saw it had chamomile and lavender. I'm obsessed with chamomile in particular, so I'm down for trying anything that incorporates it into their product. I'm also a huge fan of facial sprays. They're great for so many instances. I love this one as an extra layer of moisture both morning and evening, but it's also great right before applying your makeup, or before heading out the door (especially in the cold harsh weather - I don't know about you, but wind really does a number on my skin!). I also like it for when I've got a headache or migraine. I find lavender soothing and sometimes a little hydration can help (it can't hurt, right?).  I also think that using this has been helping to clear up my skin. I don't break out all that much, but I do get hormonal breakouts, and I have fairly sensitive, redness prone skin. I've noticed a difference in my skin since I started incorporating this into my routine. :) This spray is also incredibly affordable, especially compared to some of the other sprays out there! If you haven't tried this one yet, you really should!!

Moving on from skincare, I've been getting back into painting my nails again, thanks to the Sally Hansen Color Therapy line. These polishes are incredible in my opinion and they really don't get enough attention. The colors all go on so easily, some colors only need one coat, and I've never needed to do more than two. The formulation is perfection, they dry quickly and the smell isn't too strong (it's still there, but I've dealt with way worse!!). What's even more is that these polishes LAST!!! I struggle with joint pain and sometimes painting my nails can actually be quite painful (every day is different). Add my migraines into the mix, I don't always have the mind set to sit down and do my nails, but I really feel happier when they're done. The Color Therapy line is great because I've never tried a color from the range that didn't last at least a week. Often, they last even longer for me. I really hope that they keep this line around - even better would be if they released some more colors!!

So awhile back I mentioned how I was loving the Loreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara. It was pretty great, but the formula really started to drive me mad - it was hella goopy, made a mess of the packaging, and was flaking a bit when I wore it. No bueno! I started looking for a new mascara, and after a few pretty meh products, I recently landed on a serious winner: Lancome's Mon Sieur Big Mascara. Holy hell, this is some seriously AMAZING mascara!! I picked it up from Ulta, who had it in holiday packaging with a full size lash primer as well. It was nearly the same price as just picking up the mascara, so I figured why not? I've been using the duo together every day and it's honestly so incredible. There's no flaking, and the formula is the perfect consistency. It gives great volume and really holds well throughout the day. I will say it can be a little more difficult to take off, but I wonder if that isn't due to using the mascara + primer combo. I honestly haven't tried the mascara on its own yet, I keep meaning to but I always end up reaching for the primer as well. I'll go ahead and say it: this is a holy grail item for me.

As you probably know by now, I'm a huge Golden Girls fan. I've read memoirs from each of the ladies (minus Bea Arthur as she didn't write one), and have loved them all. Betty White wrote a ton of books though so I haven't gone through each one yet. For Christmas I was gifted If You Ask Me (and Of Course You Wont) and I really enjoyed it. It's a wonderful light read which White has split up into rather small chapters that make it super quick to get through. Its also FULL of photographs that break up the writing nicely and offer glimpses into Betty's life that any fan will enjoy.  If you're a fan of The Golden Girls, Betty White in general, or into memoirs as I am, add this one to your TBR. ;)

Sticking with entertainment, I've been seriously enjoying this new single from Mama's Gun, called London Girls. They're a UK based band and unfortunately the song isn't out on iTunes yet, so I've had to settle for playing it over and over again through their Sound Cloud. While I was on their page, I also came across this awesome acoustic version of Love Logic which they played on BBC Radio years ago. So, so, so good!

Alright, that's gonna do it for my January favorites! I'd love to know what you've been enjoying this past month so please share in the comments!! I'm always looking for something new to try out! :)
